PULSATING ANEURYSM SIMULATOR FB-1 was jointly developed by Saitama Medical University International Medical Center and Fuyo Corporation. The prototype was announced by Dr Ishihara of the above Medical Center at the 25th The Japanese Society of Neuroendovascular Therapy held at Toyama City in November 2009.

Major features
This simulator is fitted with a mock aneurysm phantom that pulsates by a dedicated pump and allows a user to simulate the interventional therapy process by inserting a catheter from an inguinal region of a mock human body. Since most of the parts of this simulator are made up of transparent material, the movement of the catheter is easily tracked visually. This simulator can be used on an ordinary table even under X-ray radiation for transparent images. Usually, a video camera and a monitor are used so that a user can operate while watching on the monitor as if he was operating under the X-ray radiation for transparent images. The life-size transparent plastic body provides a real clinical atmosphere and thus is useful for clinical education or training.

The mock aneurysm phantom alone in the kit can be used for other tests as well with CT, MR or X-ray angiography. As ECG pulse outputs can be derived from this phantom, it can be synchronized with ECG. The pulsating pump unit is fitted with 5 types of control valves inside a panel. By a combination of these valves and controller timers, various pulsating flows can be generated. (When it is used as part of an ordinary simulator, these functions are not available.)
If the water in the circulation tank lowers to the lowest limit during the operation in the AUTO mode, the alarm goes off and the pump automatically comes to a halt.
